Cathedral Grammar is a unique School in New Zealand. Established in 1881 as a choir school to educate the Choristers of Christchurch Cathedral, it is one of the oldest primary schools in this country. There continues to be a strong relationship with the Dean and the Cathedral community. We are seeking a wise and loving priest with a passion for growing the Christian faith in children in the School and helping the whole School to be a living community of faith.
Cathedral Grammar is in a time of change. The Principal and the Board are building on the extraordinary foundations of its past to create a school for the future. We do not claim to know exactly what sort of world the children of today will inhabit in 20, 50 or 75 years but we know that it will be a world that requires the best possible physical and intellectual development, and that the hope offered by the Christian faith is the greatest gift a school can offer young people today.
The Chaplain will be a key member of the senior management team of the School and will work closely with the Principal. We are looking for a priest who has
· Proven ability to preach and teach the Gospel and nurture young people in the Christian faith;
· The ability to offer chapel services and school wide religious instruction in a dynamic and engaging way for the students;
· The ability to be a key member of the senior management team and who can guide decision making to ensure that the Anglican
character of the School is fully supported;
· Excellent pastoral and communication skills.
