Chris Orczy

St Michael’s Church School

The school stands within the shadow and grounds of the remarkable and historic wooden church of St Michael’s and All Angels.

United by their foundation in the 19th century, the school family is part of the parish family. Fr Chris Orczy is the school’s chaplain. With the vicar’s office located the school’s Old Stone Building, our chaplain is very much ‘in school’, leading services, offering pastoral care and teaching Religious Education. The Fr Chris’ work is supported by two parish youth workers.

The school week begins with a chapel service in church, which includes a reflection on the week’s virtue. A second service on Wednesday alternates between a shorter chapel service and longer service of Holy Communion. Senior pupils act as servers, and read the lessons and prayers.

The whole school also joins the parish for Sunday services. In Term 1, this is for Mothering Sunday; in Term 2, for the school’s Founders’ Day; and in Term 4, for Christmas Carols.

A number of pupils belong to Young Voices, the church’s junior choir led by Director of Music Paul Ellis. Young Voices practise on Wednesdays after school and sing a Sunday service once a month. After Wednesday’s choir practice, Year 7 & 8 pupils are welcome to attend the church’s Youth Group.
